How to Enable or Disable Automatic Profile Switching In Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge has received a new feature. For those who on Canary builds, Edge 83.0.449.0. It is able to detect if a link is being opened in a wrong Microsoft Account profile and hits the user to select the proper browser profile to open it.

The addition is useful for users having multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge. As you may already know, Edge supports opening links with a different profile from the link context menu. This option is similar to Google Chrome. In addition, Edge introduced the ability to set a default browser profile to open external links, e.g. the links you click in third-party apps.
The new feature is available starting in Edge Canary 83.0.449. Called Automatic Profile Switching, it is enabled by default. It can be managed from Settings under Multiple Profile Preferences.
Automatic Profile Switching feature detects links being opened in incorrect Microsoft account profiles and guides users to correct work, school or personal profile by showing a prompt that lets user switch to correct profile.
To Enable or Disable Automatic Profile Switching In Microsoft Edge,
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the menu button with three dots.
- Select Settings from the menu.
- In Settings, click on Profiles on the left.
- On the right, click on Multiple Profile Preferences.
- On the next page, turn on or off the Automatic profile switching option for what you want.
You are done!
Note: if you don't have the Multiple Profile Preferences option on the right, this means that you have the only one profile. Try to create one more profile to test the feature in action.
The stable version of Microsoft Edge Chromium is available to the public for a while. The browser has already received a few updates, with support for ARM64 devices in Edge Stable 80. Also, Microsoft Edge is still supporting a number of aging Windows versions, including Windows 7, which has recently reached its end of support. For pre-release versions, Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. Microsoft is going to support Edge Chromium on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, alongside macOS, Linux (coming in the future) and mobile apps on iOS and Android.
