Edge Chromium Introduces Insecure Content Blocking Feature

How to Allow or Block Insecure Content in Microsoft Edge Chromium

Microsoft Edge Chromium has received a new feature. A new site's permission can be enabled to block mixed (typically insecure HTTP) content on a web site you browse. The feature can also be globally enabled for all web sites in Settings.

Starting in Canary build 80.0.340.0, there is a new flag that enables the "Insecure content" site permission option in Settings. When enabled, it makes it sure that only secure HTTPS content is allowed on web sites you browse. This can be individually changed per a web site, or configured globally for all web sites.

First of all, the new option should be unblocked with a flag. The procedure is described below.

Note: Microsoft is using Controlled Feature Roll-outs (CFR). Quite possible that the option is already available in your browser out of the box. If so, you can omit the steps below and go directly to the feature configuration part of this post.

Add Insecure Content Permission Option

  1. Update your Edge Chromium to the latest Canary build. See the version list below.
  2. Type edge://flags/#mixed-content-setting in the address bar and hit Enter.
  3. Enable the flag Blockable mixed content switch as site setting.Edge Insecure Mixed Content Flag
  4. Restart the browser.
