How to Show Menu Bar in Microsoft Edge Chromium

One of the features Microsoft Egde lacks in the classic menu bar. Many users find it useful, and would be happy to have in this modern browser. Finally, it is now possible to have the proper menu bar in Microsoft Edge Chromium.

Proper Menubar is such an extension created specially for Microsoft Edge. It allows having a classic menu bar below the tab bar in the browser. Besides Egde, the extension is compatible with most of the Chromium based browsers, including Opera and Vivaldi.

The default menu includes traditional menu items like save a file, copy text, select text, settings, help, etc. Also it including a window-related options like minimize, maximize, quick access to dev tools, and many other options you may find useful. The menu bar can be moved to the top or bottom of the Edge window.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.

Now, check out the available extension options and customize it according to your preferences.

Speaking about the menu contents, there is still room for improvements. The menu formed by the extension doesn't list bookmark items, and doesn't show your navigation history items. There are entries to open the bookmark manager, or open the full history page, but it is not possible to see specific entries in the menu. Here is how it looks:

This is likely to cause minor inconvenience to most users.

For pre-release versions, Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. Microsoft is going to support Edge Chromium on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, alongside macOS, Linux (coming in the future) and mobile apps on iOS and Android.
