Following the public release of the first preview build of Windows 11, Microsoft provided more information about the system's hardware requirements. According to the official documentation from Microsoft, Windows 11 officially supports devices with Intel 8th gen / AMD Ryzen 3000 processors and up. Still, some of Microsoft's employees showed their Surface Studio 2 with Intel 7th gen CPU running Windows 11 without any issues. The latest blog post from Microsoft explains the situation.

Microsoft today released the first preview build of Windows 11, build, 22000.51, to participants of the Windows Insider program in the Dev Channel. The company notes that it will continue to improve the OS in the coming months, so now you can try many, but not yet all of the new features that were announced last week. In particular, the "Chat" app based on Microsoft Teams and the ability to run Android applications are not yet available.

You can enable Windows 11 Dev Channel on unsupported devices, bypass the limitation and receive the builds. The first preview build of Windows 11 will be available to insiders on the Dev channel, so this is a great chance to personally evaluate the new operating system and test it on your device.

Microsoft employee Anduin Xue posted several screenshots of Windows 11 build 22000.51 on his Twitter. The images show the updated Explorer, new context menus, the Widgets panel, the updated Settings apps, and much more.

During the Windows 11 event last week, Microsoft did not tell the exact day on which it plans to ship the new operating system to the public. All we got is mere "this holiday" without much detail. Still, some titbits from the official presentation already point at a possible launch day.

One of Microsoft's Windows 11 promo videos that shows the new OS with its redesigned parts reveals a message notification in Microsoft Teams. Stevie Bathiche, one of the Surface engineers at Microsoft, sends Panos Panay a message with the following text: "Good luck today, Panos! Excited to turn it up to 11... can't wait for October!"

A message might hint at a potential Surface event in October 2021, during which Microsoft will unveil new Surface computers running Windows 11 out-of-box. Microsoft can combine two events and launch Windows 11 alongside new devices.

Windows 11, a brand-new operating system from Microsoft, is coming for free this year for all compatible Windows 10 devices. Microsoft has already shared a lot of information about hardware requirements, which, in turn, sparked tremendous confusion among users. According to Microsoft, Windows 11 officially supports computers with 8th gen Intel and 2nd gen AMD CPUs. Another crucial requirement is Trusted Platform Module 2.0 support, or simply TPM 2.0. Many users question the weird spec sheet that renders any computer older than three years old obsolete and unqualified for the upgrade. That is particularly strange, considering that Apple's macOS Monterey supports devices released back in 2013.

Earlier, Microsoft officially announced the Windows 11 operating system, which will be released in late 2021 and will be available as a free update for Windows 10. However, the minimum system requirements for the new system have changed, which is why many devices were simply incompatible with Windows 11.

During the Windows 11 announcement, Microsoft revealed a new app that will be available to Windows 11 users out of the box. It lets the user communicate with friends, family, and colleagues through Microsoft Teams via a simplified UI.
