Microsoft Edge May Remain Available on Windows 7 till July 2021

The Redmond software giant has decided to follow Chrome's support schedule for Windows 7. As you may remember,  Google promised to support the retired OS for at least 18 months, until July 15th 2021.

This move was quite predictable, since Microsoft's browser is based on Chromium. It is not known if this support time frame is similar to both consumers and enterprise customers. Quite possible that Microsoft may offer a longer support period for enterprises and users who paid for Extended Security Updates (ESU).

Anyway, in the statement made to via, Microsoft didn't specify for how long the company is going to support Edge Chromium on Windows 7. This means that the Redmond Sofware giant may stop supporting Edge on the discontinued OS at any moment of time, regardless of the Chromium support status.

Microsoft Edge Channels

Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users. You can find the actual Insider Preview versions at the end of this post. The stable version of Microsoft Edge is expected to be released on on January 15, 2020.
