Edge Chromium Has Got New Tab Page Improvements in Canary

Microsoft today released a new Canary build of Microsoft Edge Chromium. Version 80.0.353.0 of the browser features a number of changes made to InPrivate browsing. The browser has finally got a search box for the New Tab page for InPrivate windows, and a number of other minor improvements.

Here's how the new tab page looks in build 80.0.352.0:

With Edge 80.0.353.0, it has got the following appearance.

In addition to the brief data collection and tracking clarification, there is a search box and and a 'More details' button that exposes a lot of information related to InPrivate browsing mode.

The search box is actually working, not just moving the focus to the search box. The user is able to type directly in the search field. The search engine is set to pre-configured Bing that won't remember your search queries and history, matching the private browsing.

However, keep in mind that Bing anyway is able to access your IP address and detect your location to provide local results. Microsoft says that this information won't accumulated and won't be used to track you.

Other minor changes include a slightly updated InPrivate badge and other controls in the address bar.

Microsoft Edge Channels

Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users. You can find the actual Insider Preview versions at the end of this post. The stable version of Microsoft Edge is expected to be released on on January 15, 2020.
