Make Microsoft Edge Ask Where To Save Downloads

How to Turn On or Off Ask Where to Save for Microsoft Edge Chromium Downloads

By default, Microsoft Edge saves the files you download to your downloads folder, which is usually set to C:\Users\you user name\Downloads. You may want to change its behavior and make it prompt you for a folder where to save each file you download.

With the Edge browser, Microsoft has switched to the Chromium's Blink engine from their own EdgeHTML project in order to make the browser compatible with all modern web standards, offering best performance and compatibility with popular extensions.

Microsoft is going to support the new Edge browser on Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, and macOS. Also, devs are about to create a Linux version of the browser.

Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users. You can find the actual Insider Preview versions at the end of this post. The stable version of Microsoft Edge is expected to be released on on January 15, 2020.

Let's see how to make the Edge Chromium browser to always ask where to save each file before downloading.

To Turn On or Off Ask Where to Save for Microsoft Edge Chromium Downloads,

  1. Open the Edge Chromium browser.
  2. Click on the menu button, or press Alt + F to open the menu.
  3. From the menu, select Settings.
  4. On the left, click on Downloads.
  5. On the right, enable or disable the option Ask where to save each file before downloading for what you want.

You are done!

I’ve seen this or variations of it on this and other websites, only it’s not true, at least not on my computer. :( I can get to the “downloads” area of Edge’s “settings” page fine, but there is no option, radio button, or anything to set to “always ask me where to save downloads”, as there is in Chrome or Firefox. The “location” box only allows me to set a different default folder from the downloads directory, while the “always ask me what to do with downloads” just gives the option whether to open them without saving or not, nothing about *where* to save them. If someone can help with this issue, please would you; I can’t find an answer anywhere.
