Earlier this month, Microsoft sent out press invites for its November 2016 Office event. It's not clear what exactly the company is going to announce during that event, but you can expect to see not just upcoming changes for Office 365 but also some new products. This is probably where the long-rumored Slack competitor, Microsoft Teams, is going to be announced.
Microsoft today released the October 2016 update for Windows 10 virtual machines for Universal Windows Platform app developers. The company has been releasing pre-configured VMs for developers for a while and now all of them come with all the latest updates for the OS itself and pre-installed developer tools. These virtual machines can be used with Hyper-V, Parallels, VirtualBox and VMWare.
With Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft finally allowed developers to "convert" their classic Win32 apps to be distributed via Windows Store. A special tool called 'Project Centennial' or 'Desktop Bridge' allows packing classic Desktop apps into the *.appx format used by UWP. It also gives them the ability to use new APIs which were exclusively available to UWP apps only. However, there was a critical bug causing lots of computers to crash when using converted apps which now appears to be fixed with the latest update for Windows 10 version 1607.
Another interesting change was seen in the leaked screenshots of Windows 10 Creators Update: a new user interface for the built-in antivirus and protection software, Windows Defender. Let's see how it looks.
If you face this problematic issue in Windows 10 where the operating system does not start in normal mode but starts in Safe mode instead and complains about pending repair operations, this article might help you. Another interesting detail about Windows 10 was revealed during the October 2016 Microsoft Event. It looks like the Redmond giant is going to start selling themes for Windows 10. They seem to have adopted the freemium model where the base OS is free and additional value-added features are paid. In-app purchases with micropayments are very common on mobile platforms. Now they might come to the Windows 10 platform.
