Microsoft Edge: New AutoPlay Blocking Options, Updated Tracking Prevention

Microsoft continues its hard work on the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser. The latest Canary build of the browser features a couple of improvements. One of the is the update Tracking Prevention page in Settings. Also, there are new AutoPlay Blocking options which replicate the same feature of the classic Edge.

As you may remember, the classic Microsoft Edge app had a set of features to block autoplaying media content on web pages. Starting in Edge 78.0.272.0, the same features have landed on the Canary branch of the browser. The feature can be found under Settings > Site permissions > Media autoplay

Also, there is a revamped look of the Tracking Prevention options:

Finally, a few minor changes were made to the Sync options. The toggle switches have been reordered.

If you do not see these options yet, this is because Microsoft is rolling out new features gradually to Chromium-based Microsoft Edge users with the Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR). It is a procedure used to roll out new features to small randomly selected groups of users so that they can be tested.

As you may already know, Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users.

  1. trying to stop auto play of videos in and the sound of videos playing with no running video anywhere on the page using edge browser … congratz MS your programmers and engineers have succeeded in improving edge until it is broken …this is a common problem with poor management when people are trying to look busy to keep their jobs and keep beating a dead horse …when a program is done LEAVE IT THE F~~K ALONE the ” improvements” usually are not ….we don’t want or need all the new bells and whistles …maybe a OLD #ART VERSION if programs works leave it alone !! offer a KISS verson ( Keep It Simple Stupid ) for normal people and offer a GEEK VERSON with all the bells whistles and hidden bullsh~t that nerds like so they can make it do something we cant …great we are proud of your geek skills and don’t care if you know everything and all the little hidden cr@p ( you don’t have to know how to rebuild and reprogram a car to drive one do you ? ) all we want to do is surf the web, not be tracked everywhere, and don’t give out share with business partners ( defined as anyone who pays for information so can be everyone) or sell out personal data, AND NOT HAVE SOUND /VIDEOS / Anything start playing without us pushing a play button and if it is making noise it needs to be visible on the screen so we can press STOP … so back to firefox it is :)
