Microsoft Edge Chromium Receives Native Share Feature

Yet another classic feature of the Edge browser is coming to its successor, the Chromium-based app. The newest Chromium-based Edge is receiving integration with the 'Share' feature of Windows 10 which allows to copy the URL of the current web page or send to another app quickly.

The feature adds a new 'Share' option to the browser's main menu. Once you click on it, a familiar dialog will be shown, allowing to select the app to send the current URL to. It is possible to attach it to a message, post in a social network app like Facebook, or even send to the linked Android device via the Your Phone app.

Here are some screenshots.

Following Controlled Feature Rollout in Edge, this new Share feature is not available to everyone. It looks like it is enabled to a small select group of devices. Also, there is no flag or other way to force enable it.

The classic Edge app which is the default Windows 10 browser as of now has the same feature.

It is possible that Microsoft will increase the number of devices that have access to the Share feature, or will make it available to users on the Dev or Canary channel of updates. As of now, updating to the latest Canary build 78.0.245.0 doesn't unlock the feature here.

Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. The stable channel is also on its way to users. The new Microsoft Edge browser installs updates automatically. Also, you can manually check for updates by visiting the menu Help > About Microsoft Edge. Finally, you can grab the Edge installer from the following page:
