Microsoft renames its partner conference to Microsoft Inspire

Last week, Microsoft announced the schedule for its conferences for 2017, including Build 2017 and Microsoft Ignite. However, while the mentioned two are for developers and businesses, there was always one more conference for the company's partners — Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference or WPC for short. The company will hold the conference in 2017 too, but it's now known as Microsoft Inspire.

Latest Skype Preview build is now available in the Slow and Release Preview rings

A few days ago, Microsoft started rolling out a new update for Skype Preview (UWP) app on Windows 10, which was previously available only to Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring. This update has introduced the Skype Translator feature to the app, allowing users from around the world to chat or call each other even if there's no common language they can speak. And today, this update has made its way to both Slow and Release Preview rings.

Dropbox Universal app is now available on Xbox One

Microsoft's Xbox One has supported running UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps for quite some time now and many developers have updated their apps to allow installing them on the console. It's worth mentioning that it's not enough to just make the app available to download. For a decent experience on Xbox One, developers are expected to optimize it for Xbox One. As we know, the developer behind the official Dropbox client for Windows 10 is Rudy Huyn, who's known for paying a lot of attention to detail. So the official Dropbox app for Xbox One looks great.

Cortana will be available in Windows 10 IoT with Creators Update

Microsoft has announced that its digital assistant, Cortana, will make its way to Internet of Things (IoT) devices with a new Core update planned to be released some time after Windows 10 Creators Update. It's only logical for Cortana to become available on embedded devices now since all of Microsoft's own hardware is already running it, no matter what form factor — from mobile phones to Surface Hubs. This announcement is coming from the recently ended WinHEC 2016 conference for Microsoft hardware partners.

Cortana for Android may allow users to customize the UI in the future

With the recent release of Cortana for Android 2.0, Microsoft has introduced a big redesign for its assistant on Google's mobile OS. It's now following some of the Material Design guidelines and looks more 'flat' while still offering the same rich set of features to users. And now there's a hint on what to expect from future updates in the app itself: if you tap the Cortana logo, there's a new screen which says clearly — "Coming soon: Personalize your Cortana".

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition is now available for Windows 10 PCs

Killer Instinct was one of the first games available on Xbox One at launch back in 2013 and was later ported to Windows 10 PCs. Even if it wasn't part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program, the game became popular enough to get the "Definitive Edition" treatment in September. And now, this bundle packed with bonuses and additional content is finally available on Windows 10.

3 more games are now available for Xbox One via backward compatibility

The Xbox Backward Compatibility was a long awaited feature for Xbox One owners since the console's launch. It has became a huge success with a still growing list of available games. This time Microsoft has added 3 Xbox 360 games at once: now you can enjoy playing "Shadowrun", "Space Ark", and "Shotest Shogi" once again. With the latest additions (and the ones that have been added on December 4 — "Garou: Mark of the Wolves", "Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project" and "Sonic the Fighters'), the Backward Compatibility list now contains 301 games.

Windows 10 build 14986 improves DPI scaling for classic apps

When Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 build 14986 for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring, almost instantly some of the program members noticed a difference in how the OS renders some of the classic applications on high DPI screens, including Surface tablets. This change wasn't mentioned in the original blog post for the release, but a few days later the company has updated it with details about what's changed in DPI scaling.
