Vertical tab is relatively new feature of the browser. It has become available in the stable version of Edge just recently.

The vertical tabs is one of the most exciting options in Microsoft's Chromium-based browser. It is pretty rare among Chromium-based projects, most of which do not allow tweaking the appearance of the tab row. Vivaldi is the only browser that had such a feature before Microsoft implemented something similar. Also, Firefox used to have such an ability, but it is not longer a thing, as it was implemented via a XUL add-on, that is no supported in latest Firefox versions with its drastic UI changes.

The user can enable or disable vertical tabs via a special button in the Edge title bar that allows switching between the traditional and newest tab row look. But the ability to hide the title bar is one of the most requested features since introduction of vertical tabs. Finally, Microsoft has followed users' feedback and has added it. As of the moment of this writing, it is only available in Canary, but it won't take long to appear for stable Edge users. In build 91.0.825.0, it could b enabled or disabled with the edge://flags/#edge-vertical-tabs-hide-titlebar experimental option. Starting in Microsoft Edge Canary 92.0.891.0, there is a new option in Settings and in the page context menu, so you can omit the flag changing.

This post will show you how to hide the titlebar with vertical tabs enabled in Microsoft Edge.

  1. I don’t have this option in any of the places described. Did they remove this feature? Vertical tabs doesn’t make much sense if the space is used anyway.

    I’m running edge version 90.0.818.66
