Add or Remove Vertical Tabs Button on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge

How to Add or Remove Vertical Tabs Button on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge

Recently, Microsoft has added the vertical tabs option to the Edge browser. It is an alternative layout of the tab row, where the tabs are arranged vertically. There is also an option to collapse the tab bar, so tabs turn into website icons. For users who prefer the classic horizontal tab row, Microsoft has added the option to remove the vertical tabs button to save the space.

The vertical tabs change is one of the most exciting additions to the Edge user interface. Most Chromium-based browsers do not allow customizing the tab row. The only browser that allows you to place tabs on any desired edge of the browser window is Vivaldi. Firefox used to have such an option, but this is no longer possible with its modern versions, due to the radical changes internally made to the user interface of Firefox.

Note that you can quickly remove the button right from the tab row. When the vertical tabs feature is disabled, and you have tabs arranged horizontally, right-click on the vertical tabs button, and select Hide from toolbar from the context menu.

Microsoft Edge is now a Chromium-based browser with a number of exclusive features like Read Aloud and services tied to Microsoft instead of Google. The browser has already received a few updates, with support for ARM64 devices in Edge Stable 80. Also, Microsoft Edge is still supporting a number of aging Windows versions, including Windows 7, which has recently reached its end of support. Check out Windows Versions Supported by Microsoft Edge Chromium and Edge Chromium latest roadmap. Finally, interested users can download MSI installers for deployment and customization.

For pre-release versions, Microsoft is currently using three channels to deliver updates to Edge Insiders. The Canary channel receives updates daily (except Saturday and Sunday), the Dev channel is getting updates weekly, and the Beta channel is updated every 6 weeks. Microsoft is going to support Edge Chromium on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, alongside macOS, upcoming Linux and mobile apps on iOS and Android. Windows 7 users will receive updates until July 15, 2021.

It only works when the tab row is set to the horizontal tabs. With vertical tabs, the button remains visible regardless of the setting.

It works you with the horizontal tab layout. Make tabs horizontal first, then enable/disable the option. You will see the difference.
