March update for Xbox fixes controller connection issues

A few days ago, Microsoft released the March update for the Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. This relatively minor update brought an option to turn off the FPS Boost and Auto HDR enhancements for backward compatible games. For some reason, the changelog does not say that the March update also resolves gamepad connection issues. Jason Ronald, a member of the Xbox team, mentioned in his Twitter account that those suffering from the controller disconnect issues should install the latest update to get rid of all the problems.

It took some time for Microsoft to acknowledge the issue. First complaints about the poor connection stability appeared right after Microsoft launched the new consoles back in November 2020. The bug mainly hit Xbox Series X consoles paired with a new gamepad. In January 2021, Microsoft finally admitted the problem and promised to fix it as soon as possible.

The March update for Xbox is available for Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. You can install it by opening Settings – System – Updates & Downloads. In addition to the March update, Microsoft updated the Microsoft Store for Xbox. It now shows a list of supported languages for many store listings.

The controller connection issue is not the only hardware problem Microsoft is currently fighting with. Yesterday, Microsoft issued a statement asking Surface Book 3 owners to contact Microsoft support if their computers suffer from screen blackout issues. The problem first appeared back in September 2020 after a new firmware update. Unfortunately, after more than half a year of consumers' frustration, there is still no information on what causes the trouble or how to fix it.
