Windows 11 lets you change the volume by scrolling the mouse wheel over the tray icon

After shipping the initial release of Windows 11, Microsoft is back at its drawing boards, shaping the next feature update for the latest operating system. According to Microsoft's strategies, Windows 11 will be getting one "big" update every year, giving the company enough time to pack a new version with many changes and new features. While many enthusiasts patiently wait for Microsoft to deliver promised Android apps support, Windows developers work on many minor quality-of-life improvements.

No, there are still no modern volume sliders in the latest preview build of Windows 11, but there is a somewhat unexpected change: you can now adjust the volume using the mouse wheel without opening the volume flyout. All you need to do is point the cursor at the volume icon in the system tray and adjust the volume level with the mouse wheel. Windows will show your adjustments in a tooltip. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

The new volume adjusting mechanism probably will not stop Windows fans from ranting about the ten-year-old volume slider, but at least it is nice to get a new convenient way to raise or lower the volume in Windows 11.

If you a fan of the classic volume mixer, you still can open it with the sndvol.exe command. Try to type it in the Run dialog (Win + R). Also, you can have a full-featured classic volume control with this app.

Classic Volume Control For Windows 11

Unfortunately, users did not welcome it, unlike the new volume management. Windows 11 22478 has newly redesigned emojis that look far from what Microsoft promised several months ago. We have a guide that describes how to install the new Windows 11 build 22478 emojis on the stable versions of Windows 10 and 11, so you can take a look yourself. Meanwhile, Microsoft says its marketing department used "wrong graphics" when promoting the new emojis, and the company is sorry for that.
