October 2021 firmware update is available for Surface Laptop 2 and Pro 7 Plus

After a somewhat long pause in updating firmware for Surface devices, Microsoft is back with fresh patches for its computers. The October 2021 firmware updates are now available for Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 7 Plus (business-oriented version of Surface Laptop 7 with improved internals, which Microsoft released at the beginning of the year).

What is new in October 2021 firmware update for Surface Laptop 2

  • The update improves device stability and reliability during Surface Dock 2 scenarios.
  • Improves audio stability and reliability.

Surface – Extension – 6.7.137.0

Surface Dock 2 Firmware Update – Extension.

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. – Extension – 6.1.0.9.

Realtek High Definition Audio (SST) Extension.

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. – Media – 6.0.9083.3.

Realtek High Definition Autio (SST) – Sound, video, and game controllers.

The update is available for all Surface Laptop 2 configurations with Windows 10 1903 (May 2019 Update) or higher. Microsoft plans to continue updating Surface Laptop 2 until October 16, 2022, which means users have one more year before the company stops shipping firmware updates. Note that the timeline does not apply to Windows updates.

  • The update improves device stability and reliability.
  • Resolves CPU throttle to 0.19GHz issue.
