Beware: Meltdown/Spectre CPU Microcode Update Causes Reboots on All Intel Processors

Recently, Intel released CPU microcode updates to mitigate the Meltdown and Spectre flaws. Later, it was discovered that the update was causing unexpected reboots on Broadwell and Haswell systems. Newer research from Intel shows that Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Skylake and Kaby Lake-based platforms are all affected by the bugged update and spontaneously reboot.

Here are fixes for Windows 7 and 8.1 unbootable state on AMD

As you may be aware, Microsoft has released a number of patches for all supported operating systems to protect them from Meltdown and Spectre attacks. These include Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Unfortunately for AMD CPU users, those patches caused a blue screen of death (BSOD) for those who have an AMD Athlon chip. Finally, the issue is resolved. Microsoft today released a couple of fixes for AMD users.

Here are Windows 7 and 8.1 fixes for Meltdown and Spectre CPU flaws

A critical flaw was found in all Intel processors launched in the past decade. The vulnerability can allow an attacker to gain access to protected kernel memory. This chip-level security flaw cannot be fixed with a CPU microcode (software) update. Instead, it requires modification of the OS kernel. Earlier today, Microsoft released security patches for Windows 10. The appropriate patches are now available for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
