References to Windows 11 “Moment 3” update found in Beta build 22623.885

As you may remember, with Windows 11 "22H2" Microsoft introduced a new mechanism to provide feature updates to the OS. Instead of including them into huge version updates, it now ships small but frequent packages internally called "Moments". While the OS itself will receive major version changes once every 3 years, new features will appear multiple times throughout the year with these "Moment" updates.Windows 11 "Moment 3" updateJust recently Microsoft released the first wave of features as a "Moment 1" update to the public, which includes tabs in File Explorer, iCloud support in the Photos app, task manager in the taskbar context menu, and several other features.

Windows enthusiast @PhantomOfEarth has discovered a new identification number in Windows 11 Beta build 22623.885 in the component store of the OS. It has name similar to what Microsoft used for "Moments 1/2", and is called MTestUx14.

  • Moment 1 = 39145991 (NWMTest1)
  • Moment 2 = 39281392 (MTestUx13)
  • Moment 3 = 41655236 (MTestUx14)

It is only a guess, as Microsoft didn't confirm this information. Also, the Moment 3 works are at very early stage. The ID is now disabled by default, as it had happened to Moment 1 and 2.

It's surprising to see any references to the Moment 3 feature set as its predecessor is in development and Microsoft hasn't revealed a release date for it. The Redmond-based firm has yet to announce Moment 2 features, so don't expect them to let you know what's coming in Moment 3 anytime soon.
