One of the changes Microsoft promised for Windows 11 users was a completely overhauled set of "3D" emojis. After several months of waiting, Microsoft finally delivered the promised redesign. Yesterday, Microsoft released a new Dev build for Windows insiders with the new emojis. After installing the build, users quickly discovered that reality is often disappointing and the new emojis have little in common with those Microsoft promised to deliver.
Here is the original promo video revealing the new emoji design for Windows 11 and Microsoft Teams:
And here is what users received in Windows 11 build 22478:
Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager of the Windows Insider Program, replied to the accusation of "scamming" Windows 11 users with misleading advertisements. LeBlanc said that Windows 11 uses "2D" emojis" instead of what originally seemed like a 3D version, and Microsoft simply used "wrong graphics." They are sorry.
Of course, controversial emojis are the least important issue users currently experience with Windows 11. Still, it highlights the problem with Microsoft's marketing strategies, promotional videos, and overpromising.
The Software Giant has a team of very talented 3D designers capable of creating stunning videos. Unfortunately, final products often have little in common with those fancy renders. Whether the situation qualifies as a false advertisement or not, Microsoft clearly needs to tone down its promises and stop overhyping new features to prevent users' disappointment. Or maybe the company needs to ensure their marketing team uses "correct graphics" next time.
You can check out new emojis in the latest Windows 11 preview build without installing the latter or even without upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11. Check out this guide that tells you how to get the build 22478 emojis in Windows 10 and the stable version of Windows 11.
