According to Microsoft, WordPad will not be included as a feature on demand. This means it will be removed permanently in a future update. The change has already been observed by those who have installed Windows 11 Build 26020 from the Canary channel.
In the changelog post for Build 26020, Microsoft clearly noted that WordPad is now a deprecated feature. It won't be available if you clean install that Canary build. Moreover, the app will be removed from existing Windows 11 instances with an upcoming update.
In lieu of WordPad, Microsoft recommends using Microsoft Word for rich text documents, and Notepad for simple text documents.
Many users of Windows 11 have expressed their dissatisfaction with the removal of WordPad, noting its faster performance compared to MS Word. Interestingly, some of the deprecated apps are often remain available as a feature on demand. But it is not the case of WordPad.
