Windows 11 will get new features twice in the first half of 2023

Starting with version 22H2, Microsoft updates Windows 11 with frequent portions of new features internally called "Moments". For example, the "Moment 1" update has included tabs in File Explorer, Suggested Actions, and more. Its successor, the Moment 2 update features, are in testing among Insiders and are slated for the release in February or March 2023. Finally, in the spring of 2023 there will be another set of features called "Moment 3" and it will appear sometime in May.

Windows 11 Moment 3 Update

The list of novelties included in the Moment 1 set is reviewed in detail here. It includes a tabbed File Explorer, Suggested Actions, several  taskbar improvements, Nearby Sharing, and iCloud support in the Photos app.

It successor "Moment 2" is supposed to have the following features:

  • Tablet-optimized taskbar with an updated system tray.
  • Live search in File Explorer that shows what it finds in as you type.
  • New Touch keyboard options in the Settings app.
  • ... and some more features Microsoft is yet to announce.

Moment 3 update

Well-known insider WalkingCat has shared his findings that suggest the "Moment 3" release will happen in  May 2023. It is refereed as next Windows "Continuous Innovations" . But at this time, there is no information what exactly it will include.

Meanwhile, Insider binaries of Windows 11 already include references to "Moment 4", even more fresh update that will come after Moment 3. Starting in build 25262, Dev channel releases include IDs for 4 updates.

Moment 1 = 39145991
Moment 2 = 39281392 (MTestUx13)
Moment 3 = 41655236 (MTestUx14)
Moment 4 = 42105254 (MTestUx15)

Microsoft is yet to shed some light on Moment 2 and above, but for #2 and #3 it's a matter of a couple of months.
