Windows 11 Notepad is getting AI-powered Cowriter feature

The inbox Notepad app will soon get a new AI-powered feature "Cowriter". It will offer a number of text processing options such as rewrite, make text shorter or longer, change its tone, and so on.

The information comes from well-known leakster PhantomOcean3. His screenshot of the new version of the Notepad app for Windows 11 showcases an early implementation the Cowriter . It is a new menu in Notepad that offers several commands supercharged by artificial intelligence. Those include the options to rewrite, shorten or lengthen text, as well as change tone and formatting.

At the moment, the Cowriter feature does nothing. But in the near future Microsoft will probably officially announce it and begin testing among  Windows Insiders. We can expect that Cowriter will be implemented as a web service, which means that you will need to log in to your Microsoft account to use it.

Another finding in Notepad is an image demonstrating Cowriter in action. It shows a UI that resembles the similar "rewrite" feature of Microsoft Edge (the latter is also a work in progress).

So it should not take long for Microsoft to announce these features.
