WhatsApp for Windows Phone updated with new UI features

WhatsApp for Windows Phones is still an old app built originally for Windows Phone 8, which means it's a Silverlight app and may be discontinued in the next Windows 10 Mobile release. However this fact isn't stopping the devs from bringing more features to the current version of the app. A few days ago, WhatsApp for Windows Phone received another update, version 2.17.204.0, which brings some additions that were in testing in the beta version of the app.

Windows 10 Mobile will stay in feature2 branch, no new features planned

After once again separating Windows 10 Mobile development from the main development branch of Windows 10, Microsoft hasn't clearly stated its future plans for the mobile OS, leaving most of its users concerned. During the Windows Insider monthly webcast on Microsoft Mixer, company employees shared a bit of information about current plans for the platform. Microsoft will ditch Silverlight in Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft is once again working on rebooting its mobile platform and putting more efforts than ever into building the next iteration of its Windows Mobile OS. While its still unclear how it's going to end up looking on the outside, on the inside Microsoft is working on bringing more consistency with the desktop version of Windows 10 with its composable shell project. Of course, bringing the Mobile version on par with the desktop one will require even more under-the-hood changes. One of them, according to recent reports, will be the dropping of Silverlight app support on the mobile platform completely.

Windows 10 Mobile devices will get Creators Update on April 25, 2017

While Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703 or build 10563) will start rolling out for the majority of Windows 10 users today, the same update for Windows 10 Mobile users will be released two weeks later. According to the official blog post, Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update will be released on April 25, 2017 and only a small number of existing phones will receive it. The update will be released in several waves just like the last time, which means your device may receive it even later, and not on the day when the rollout starts. Wileyfox is considering creating a Windows 10 Mobile device for business

You've probably never heard about the small phone brand Wileyfox, but it's getting really popular in some countries. The company has tried to win consumers' love by making affordability and quality as its priorities for new devices and also by using CyanogenOS as the operating system. The latest reports, however, are saying that Wileyfox is considering a Windows phone running Windows 10 Mobile with business users in mind. The company has clearly had some inspiration from the success of HP's Elite x3, which is really popular among business users tied to the Microsoft ecosystem. Windows 10 Mobile build 15025 is released for Fast Ring Insiders

Despite our previous reports, Microsoft has managed to release a new Windows 10 Mobile build this week. Build 15025 is now rolling out in the Fast ring and should be already available for all Windows Insider Program members enrolled in it. The company has managed to fix the previously mentioned blocking bug that was preventing people from downloading and installing new OS builds properly which could potentially have caused some damage to the software running on these mobile devices. The change log is almost identical to what was introduced with the desktop version of this build and there are still known issues present. New Windows 10 Mobile builds for insiders are delayed due to blocking bug

Windows Insider program members haven't seen new Windows 10 Mobile builds for quite some time. Despite desktop builds for the Fast ring being released every week, Microsoft has some issues with getting newer Mobile builds to run good enough on Insider devices. Microsoft launches Lumia self-help app with its support partner

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that its customer care services for Lumia and feature phones will be operated now by a German customer care company B2X. Right after the original announcement, B2X officials promised to release a "self-help" app for existing device owners and it's now available for download from Windows Store, offering a set of tools for customers to diagnose a problem in several possible scenarios. Windows 10 Mobile Build 14977 is out for Insiders in the Fast Ring

Microsoft has released another Windows 10 Creators Update build for Windows 10 Mobile Insiders. This time it's build 14977 and it's available for mobile devices on the Fast Ring. The desktop variant was postponed this time because of some "blocking bugs" as Microsoft employees referred to them. There's a pretty small amount of changes in this build, but still it's nice to get a new one since the last few times, Mobile builds were released with a huge delay compared to PC builds. Instagram for Windows 10 is finally getting a live tile

Instagram for Windows Phone was always one of the reasons for users to complain about the platform. At first, there wasn't an official client at all, but some good 3rd party alternatives were created by independent developers. Then there was a version for Windows Phone 8.1 which was updated just a few times and always lacked some features compared to variants for other platforms. Instagram then announced that they were bringing the full Instagram experience to Windows 10, including both Mobile and PC apps. These apps are still being updated. Instagram has started to close some feature gaps. They are adding a Live Tile for Instagram, a feature unique to the Windows platform.
