Super-Duper Secure Mode is now available in Edge Stable

After a couple of months of extensive testing and numerous improvements, Microsoft finally released Super-Duper Secure Mode (SDSM) for all users in the Stable channel. The feature arrived without much fanfare in the latest version of Microsoft Edge, which, by the time of writing, is 96.0.1054.29. To check your Microsoft Edge version, go to edge://settings/help.

Edge Customizable Super Duper Secure Mode

Super-Duper Security Mode, as the name implies, is a set of security mitigations for Microsoft Edge. SDSM allows users to make their browsing experience safer by disabling the "Just-in-time" compiler in the V8 JavaScript engine. The new mode also applies additional measures to keep users safe out there in the vast seas of the Internet.

Add Exceptions To Super Duper Secure Mode In Edge 1

SDSM in the Edge browser is an opt-in feature, which means users need to enable it manually in the settings. That is because turning on Super-Duper Secure Mode might lead to insignificant performance dips and throw a wrench into some websites.

To keep users happy with the optimal performance-to-security ratio, Microsoft provides two levels of security: balanced and strict. Besides, you can specify websites-exception on which Edge will run without SDSM.

Super-Duper Secure Mode lives in the "Privacy, Search, and Services" section inside the Microsoft Edge settings. You can also open it by navigating to edge://settings/privacy. Here on Winaero, we have dedicated articles that explain how to customize SDSM in Edge and how to add exceptions to Super-Duper Secure Mode in Edge. Just keep in mind that Edge 96 no longer requires enabling experimental flags for managing SDSM.

It is worth mentioning that Super-Duper Secure Mode is not exclusive to Edge on Windows. macOS users can also enable SDSM for additional protection.

Super-Duper Secure Mode is part of the recently released Edge 96. You can learn what is new in the latest major update for the browser from Microsoft in our dedicated article.
