Some private Bard chatbot conversations have been exposed in online search

In September, researcher Gagan Ghotra discovered that some user queries to the Bard chatbot were visible in search engines as clear text. Even though Google has since closed access to these search results, Bing and Yandex still show some user requests with chatbot responses, including personal data.

Bard Chat Leaked

DeepMind AI specialist Peter Liu explained that the search results contained links to user chats with the "Share" option activated, allowing users to show the results of their communication with the bot to someone else.

However, many users argued that it is better to transfer the results of their communication with Bard to someone specific via a private link rather than making them publicly available on the internet. There was no notification from Bard or Google that the results of this chatbot conversation would be indexed and made publicly available.

The Bard chatbot was previously taught to search for answers to questions in Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Flights.
