The PowerToys suite will soon get a new tool, PowerOCR. It will allow you to select any screen part, OCR everything and put the result into the clipboard.
A pull request on GitHub reveals all the code and the current state of the utility. It is supposed to do its work by selecting a rectangular region, clicking a word, or right-clicking an image file and selecting PowerOCR. It will have a dedicated settings page, multi-monitor support, and a Snipping Tool-like bar at the top screen edge to quickly switch between its options.
Currently, it is a work-in-progress, but it already works. The following video demonstrates it in action.
Perhaps it will be one of the most valuable additions to the PowerToys app. It already includes a few options to simplify your work with on-screen objects. For example, the built-in Color Picker allows you to get the color code of any point on the screen. Also, there is an upcoming Screen Ruler "powertoy" that will measure the distance between any controls and buttons of your running apps.
It is nice to see the direction the team behind the project takes. Also keep in mind that PowerToys is open-source, so those who brave enough can contribute their ideas using GtiHub.
