After Panos Panay's departure, Microsoft separated the Windows and Surface teams, with Pavan Davuluri overseeing processor and Surface device creation, and Mikhail Parakhin leading the Windows and Microsoft web services team.

Under the new organizational structure, Pavan Davuluri will report directly to Rajesh Jha as the head of Windows and Surface. Davuluri, a Microsoft veteran of over 23 years, played a crucial role in developing custom processors for the Surface in collaboration with AMD and Qualcomm.

Rajesh Jha highlights the close collaboration between the Windows team and the new AI division, emphasizing the focus on artificial intelligence, chips, and new capabilities.

Mikhail Parakhin resigned from his position in Microsoft AI division

A few days ago, Microsoft has created a new Microsoft AI division under the leadership of Mustafa Suleyman, which will be responsible for products such as Bing, Edge and Copilot. However, these changes led to unexpected consequences.

As reported by Thurrott,  Mikhail Parakhin, who led the Windows, Bing, Edge and Copilot teams, turned down a new position in Microsoft's AI division because he considers it a demotion. Parakhin will temporarily report to Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott until he finds a new position within or outside the company.

It is unknown who now heads Copilot, Bing and Edge, but it is known that they remain part of the Web Experiences team. Other senior Microsoft executives are also moving to Microsoft's AI division, includingJordi Ribas (Search, Maps, and Platforms), Rukmini Iyer (Advertising), and Mike Davidson (Design), Ali Akgun (Mobile Experiences and Platform), Kya Sainsbury-Carter (Advertising), and Rajesh Sundaram (Edge).

The departure of Mikhail Parakhin should not seriously affect the Windows and Surface products, since the combined team was headed by Pavan Davuluri, who was previously directly responsible for microchips and Surface. This was announced by the head of the Experiences & Devices division, Rajesh Jha.
