Bing, Edge, Copilot and even Windows may jump into Microsoft’s new AI division

Microsoft has declared a new company-wide reorganization, with the establishment of a fresh unit called "Microsoft AI" under the direction of Mustafa Suleyman, a co-founder of DeepMind and Inflection. This new division will oversee products like Bing, Edge, Copilot, and possibly Windows.

Mustafa Suleyman has been appointed Executive Vice President and General Manager of Microsoft AI. He is granted a position on Microsoft's senior management team and will directly report to CEO Satya Nadella. These adjustments denote Microsoft's significant focus on artificial intelligence technologies.

As part of the restructuring, Mikhail Parakhin and his team, previously in charge of Bing, Edge, and Copilot, are transitioning to the Microsoft AI division.

Interestingly, Microsoft doesn't mention what's happening to Windows as part of this new redesign. When former Windows chief Panos Panay left last year, Windows was transferred to Mikhail Parakhin, but Microsoft's press release about reorganization did not mention that Windows moved with him into the Microsoft AI structure. So, the status of Windows is presently uncertain.

The situation raises some questions. If Windows remains within the Experiences & Devices division under the leadership of Rajesh Jha, then who will now lead the team? Microsoft may soon make some clarification on this matter.

Regardless of where Windows currently stands within the company, it's clear that Microsoft now views itself primarily as an artificial intelligence company. Microsoft is fully embracing the power of artificial intelligence and Microsoft Copilot, and you can be sure that all future products will be built on top of this technology.
