According to reports, Microsoft has postponed the launch of the ARM-based Surface Go 4 tablet. Instead, the tech giant will unveil a refreshed version of the Surface Go with Intel processors, specifically tailored for enterprise use.
The new Surface Go will feature chips from the Intel N200 line, designed for entry-level portable devices, making it more powerful and energy efficient than its predecessor, the Surface Go 3, which uses an Intel Core i3-10100Y processor in its top configuration.
While the new Surface Go will share many similarities with the previous generation, it will be more repairable through the use of replaceable parts, like the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5. Microsoft aims to make all Surface devices repairable in the future.
The new Surface Go will primarily target businesses and educational institutions, much like the Surface Pro 7+ did in 2021. It is possible that the device may be released as the Surface Go 3+ rather than the Surface Go 4, though this remains unconfirmed.
Microsoft is still planning to release Surface Go on the ARM platform, but it is not yet known when this will happen. The in-development Surface Go model, codenamed Tanta, was supposed to receive a Snapdragon 7c processor. The transition to ARM will significantly increase battery life, while the performance of the device will remain approximately the same.
