Microsoft plans to retire Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT)

Starting in Windows 11 Build 25276, Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool, or simply MSDT, includes a hidden app deprecation notification with a link to the appropriate support page. The EOL time is set somewhere in 2025 that indicates that next-gen Windows version will not offer it, or may not support it after all.

The Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool is a special component of the operating system for remote data diagnostic. It works in the background as a Windows service. Last year MSDT was often a target for attacks due to vulnerabilities that allowed remote code execution. That made many administrators to disable the tool.

Now Microsoft itself is deprecating the software. Well-known windows enthusiast Rafael Rivera has discovered a hidden banner in the app that Microsoft is working on.

Msdt Eol Banner End Of Support 2025

The learn more link in the banner points to the following short URL: https://aka.ms/msdtretire. But it doesn't open anything useful as of now.

According to the banner shown in the app, the end of life for MSDT is set to 2025, the same year when Windows 10 reaches its end of support. By that time, Microsoft is expected to introduce a successor to Windows 11, which is referred as "Windows 12" by media and the community.
