Microsoft is reportedly developing a new network card that should increase the performance of the Maia AI server chip and reduce the company's dependence on NVIDIA solutions.

According to The Information, the project is led by Pradeep Sindhu, one of the founders of Juniper Networks, which produces telecommunications equipment. He joined Microsoft in January 2023, according to LinkedIn. It is also worth noting that last year Microsoft bought Fungible, a company specializing in the development of server chips.

Microsoft's new network card is in many ways similar to Nvidia's ConnectX-7, which is sold bundled with graphics processing units (GPUs). The creation of the device is expected to take more than a year. The success of the project will increase the efficiency of data processing, speed up and make the process of training artificial intelligence models on Microsoft servers faster and less expensive.

Microsoft representatives have not yet commented on this information.
