The main reason for the automatic updates is to ensure that users receive monthly security updates in a timely manner, especially as older versions of Windows 11 reach the end of servicing. As Windows 11, version 21H2 reached the end of servicing last October and version 22H2 is approaching the same fate, Microsoft has started auto-updating these PCs. Microsoft states the following:

Windows 11, version 23H2, also known as the Windows 11 2023 Update, is now entering a new rollout phase. We are starting to update eligible Windows 11 devices automatically to version 23H2.

This automatic update targets Windows 11 devices that have reached or are approaching end of servicing and it follows the machine learning-based (ML) training we have utilized so far. We will continue to train our intelligent ML model to safely roll out this new Windows version in phases to deliver a smooth update experience.

Through the use of machine learning, Microsoft is able to target devices running older updates and automatically update them to Windows 11 23H2, a method they successfully utilized when updating PCs to Windows 11 22H2 last year.

Windows 11 23H2 will be automatically pushed to both Home and Pro editions of PCs. Microsoft promises to issue security updates for Windows 11 23H2 until November 11, 2025. As usual, the rollout is gradual, so not every single device will see the OS upgrade offer right away.

But you can speed up this process and install it manually. For that, you should get the ISO file from the official website and create a bootable USB stick.
