Microsoft integrates Bing Visual Search into the Edge browser

Google, Bing, and other popular search engines have a tool that lets you upload a picture and search on the Internet for similar images. The procedure is not the most convenient because it requires saving an image locally, opening a search engine, launching an image search, and uploading the picture. To make things easier, Microsoft is working on a dedicated Visual Search button to pull an image off a webpage and directly upload it to the Bing Image search for finding similar pics. All it takes is just a single click.

Users spotted the new button in the latest versions of Edge Canary. It does not require enabling dedicated flags in the section with experimental features. Once you click the Visual Search button, Microsoft Edge brings a side search panel with similar images found on the Internet.

It is also worth mentioning that the Visual Search button does not appear on pictures on all websites.  As of now, we managed to get it working only on Reddit. Still, you can bypass that limitation using the context menus. Right-click any picture and select the "Visual Search" option.

Visual Search in Microsoft Edge also has a dedicated Setting page under the "Appearance" section. There you can disable the button altogether or on specific websites. It also lets you remove the option from the ever-growing context menu in the Edge browser.

Unfortunately, Visual Search works only in Bing, and Microsoft does not allow changing it to Google, Duckduckgo, or any other search engine. We should also point that Microsoft is rolling out the Visual Search button for Edge insiders gradually.

Visual Search is not the only button that might soon appear on top of web content in your browser. Microsoft is also working on making it easier to launch picture-in-picture mode for videos. Developers recently introduced a new setting that enables the picture-in-picture button when users hover the cursor over a video. The good thing is that all those changes are customizable, which means you can disable them with just a couple of clicks.
