Microsoft discontinues Windows Mixed Reality and Edge Defender Application Guard

Two more feature reached their end of support this year. Windows Mixed Reality and Defender Application Guard for Edge are now listed on the deprecated features in Windows 11.

Windows Mixed Reality is the platform that adds mixed reality experiences available on Microsoft HoloLens. It offers a holographic shell and an interaction model, perception APIs, and Xbox Live services.

The component doesn't play an important role in Windows, as the Redmond firm is now focused on AI, Copilot, and Bing Chat. It didn't receive notable updates since Windows 10, and is now marked as a deprecated feature.

Windows Mixed Reality is deprecated and will be removed in a future release of Windows. This deprecation includes the Mixed Reality Portal app, and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR and Steam VR Beta.

But that's not all. Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Edge won't also be developed any longer. It is a security feature that implements a sandbox for the built-in web browser, Microsoft Edge, providing the secure and isolated environment for apps and scripts.

Isolated App Launcher APIs, is being deprecated for Microsoft Edge for Business and will no longer be updated. Please download the Microsoft Edge For Business Security Whitepaper to learn more about Edge for Business security capabilities.

Microsoft's recommendation is to go with Microsoft Edge For Business.

Earlier, Microsoft dropped support for legacy console host, classic Speech RecognitionSteps recorder, Tips, and legacy network services, and  removed the classic taskbar code.
