Microsoft and auto technology company TomTom are joining forces to add AI voice assistants into vehicle information systems. TomTom has recently developed its own generative AI voice assistant specifically designed for cars. This voice assistant will be powered by Microsoft Azure OpenAI service.
According to TomTom, drivers will have the ability to interact with the voice assistant using voice commands. Users can ask the assistant for directions, adjust the cabin temperature, open windows, or even switch radio stations.
The company has stated that the voice assistant can be seamlessly integrated into third-party car infotainment systems or bundled with TomTom's own Digital Cockpit platform.
There is currently no information available about when the TomTom voice assistant will be available to car owners or any financial details regarding the partnership with Microsoft.
Earlier this year, Microsoft also partnered with Mercedes-Benz, allowing car owners to participate in the beta testing program for ChatGPT voice chat, which is powered by Azure. However, no information has been released regarding the program's results.
