Microsoft Defender Preview is now available for Windows 11 and Windows 10

The newest version of Microsoft Defender, codenamed Project Gibraltar, is available for testing via the Microsoft Store. The app targets users interested in protecting "family group" devices.

During the testing period, users can install and try the app with their personal Microsoft Account. It doesn't require any active subscription. However, after the app release, it will require you to have a Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription to use Microsoft Defender.

The app's page in the Microsoft Store states that during the testing phase, users will be able to use their personal Microsoft account without signing up for any subscriptions. After release, you will need a Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription to use Microsoft Defender.

Microsoft Defender implements a single portal to manage and monitor your online security. It will show the status of not only your PC running Windows, but also four additional devices, including smartphones and Mac computers. Obviously, you have to install Microsoft Defender on all those devices and sign in with the same Microsoft account.

In the application, you can add and remove devices, as well as view anti-malware information on all connected devices. In addition, you can find recommendations for improving data protection and real-time security alerts.

Currently, the new Microsoft Defender is only available to users in the US. Users can get it Windows 11 and Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store. There is also an Android version available on Google Play. The official announcement from Microsoft is yet to come.
