Not long ago Microsoft announced an "Outlook" Smart Tile feature for the Edge browser, which is tied to your Outlook inbox folder and exposes new messages and events right on the New Tab page in the browser. This change goes live for a small select group of Inisders.
The Smart Tile has already landed in the Canary version of the Edge browser. Traditionally for early feature implementations, Microsoft is using controlled feature roll-out to test it with a limited number of users. Despite having the Canary channel, the company practice even smaller "channel" on top of the existing Insider community to polish features before they reach the majority of testers and enthusiasts.
Here are some details about the Smart Tile in Microsoft Edge.
This month, you’ll start to see incoming emails directly from the new tab page of Microsoft Edge. With the new smart tile for Outlook, you can see your three most recent emails and also start a new email or meeting request in Outlook, directly from the new tab page.
To get started, open a new tab page and click the plus sign beside your current quick links. Under suggestions, click Outlook. You’ll need to sign in to Microsoft Edge with the same account you use for Outlook to enable this feature, and it will help make your life easier by consolidating your workstreams.
If you are a lucky Edge Insider, you will see something like this in your Canary version of the browser.
The Outlook tile appears as a predefined option that you can set with one click when adding a new quick link in Edge. Its menu includes a number of entries that allow you to quickly open recent messages, compose a new email, or create a new calendar event.
Those who use Outlook as their primary email and calendar service will definitely find this change useful.
