Make Microsoft Edge Use an Extension in InPrivate Mode
By default, InPrivate mode in Microsoft Edge doesn't allow using installed extensions. However, you may need to enable some extension while using Edge in the private browsing.
Almost every Microsoft Edge user is familiar with InPrivate Browsing mode, that allows opening a special window that doesn't save your browsing history, cookies, addresses and other form data. It is similar to what other browsers have, e.g. Google Chrome has the Incognito mode similar feature.
InPrivate Browsing in Microsoft Edge opens a window that allows you to browse privately. While it doesn't save things like your browsing history, cookies, site and forms data, it allows you accessing your profile, bookmarks, etc. Actually, cookies remain saved during your InPrivate browsing session and are shared between all open InPrivate windows, but will be deleted once you close all the InPrivate browsing windows.
Microsoft Edge supports useful extensions. Sometimes you need to allow some extension to work in a private browsing session. E.g. you may want to enable this for your ad blocker extension. This post will show you how to make Microsoft Edge use an extension in InPrivate Mode.
To Make Microsoft Edge Use Extension in InPrivate Mode
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the Settings button (Alt + F) and select Extensions from the menu.
- On the Extensions page find the installed extension you want to make available in InPrivate mode, and then click on the Details link.
- On the next page, turn on (check) the Allow in InPrivate option.
- The extension is now available in the private browsing.
You are done.
Next time you open a new InPrivate window, you will see the extension working in the private browsing session. You can undone the change by reverting the above steps at any moment.
Note: If you allow an extension to work in InPrivate mode, it may access your browsing history, and other data. So, it is a good idea to only enable the above option for extensions that you can trust.
💡 Finally, interested users can permanently disable InPrivate browsing in Microsoft Edge.
