Today is Patch Tuesday, so Microsoft updates all supported operating systems. These updates do not bring any new features, but fix bugs and close vulnerabilities. Here are the released patches.

With Windows 11, Microsoft has also introduced a new Media Player app. It replaces the classic Groove Music app, and also will supersede even more classic Windows Media Player software. Microsoft is slowly sunsetting the latter, so it didn't get any new major change for several Windows releases. To keep Windows 10 up to date, Microsoft will make the new Media Player app available in that OS as well. Without a fanfare, the Redmond firm has pushed it to the Release Preview channel.

Microsoft has finished support for Windows 10 version 21H1. Yesterday's cumulative updates were the last patches it has received. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest versions of Windows 10 as soon as possible to continue to stay protected.

The Windows Subsystem for Linux in the Microsoft Store is now generally available on Windows 10 and 11. Microsoft has announced the availability in the official blog, noting that it is now longer has a Preview tag. So, Windows 10 and Windows 11 can install the first stable release of the tool right from the Store.

Starting November 18, every user can upgrade their Windows 10 devices to the latest release using Windows Update. Windows 10 2022 Update, version 22H2, is ready for broad deployment.

Microsoft has released a new build to Insiders running Windows 10 version 22H2 on the Release Preview channel. They receive Build 19045.2301 via KB5020030. It includes improvements made to the the taskbar search, fixes various issues with Store and DirectX. Also, it adds a new Quick Assist inbox app.

Next month, Microsoft will end support for all editions of Windows 10 version 21H1, also known as the May 2021 Update. The EOL date is December 13, 2022, when the OS will receive the latest cumulative update with vulnerability fixes. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest versions of Windows 10 as soon as possible to continue to stay protected.

Microsoft has released a new patch for Windows 10 with various fixes, including resolved issues with Direct3D 9 games, Edge, and Windows Update. It is now available for all supported versions of the OS, and raises its version to build version 19042.2193, 19043.2193, and 19044.2193.

Besides the patch that restores the Task Manager in Windows 11's taskbar context menu, Microsoft has issued a new update to Insiders running Windows 10 21H2 in the Release Preview channel. It doesn't include new features, but comes with a good set of fixes.
