Win+X Menu Editor v3.0 is out

I released a new version of my freeware app, Win+X Menu Editor, which provides you a simple and useful way to edit Win+X menu without system file modification. It keeps your system integrity untouched. This version is compatible with Windows 10 Creators Update. Here is what's new in this version.

Install Updates on Kaby Lake and Ryzen CPUs (Bypass CPU Lock)

As you may already know, Microsoft has locked the ability to receive updates for Intel's Kaby Lake and AMD's Ryzen CPUs owners for those who have Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 installed with these CPUs. This is a very unpleasant move from the software corporation for users who have no desire to accept the upgrade to Windows 10. Here is a trick to bypass this limitation and install all updates including the ones that are prevented from being installed on such devices.

ExecTI – Run Programs as TrustedInstaller

Starting with Windows Vista, even if an app is running elevated, it may have no access to certain Registry keys and files. A new security model introduced in Windows Vista comes with a special user account, TrustedInstaller, which is set as the owner for such files and Registry keys. However, if you execute a program as TrustedInstaller, then you are able to access these protected resources. To simplify running apps as TrustedInstaller, I coded ExecTI, a lightweight, tiny software, which allows you to do exactly that using a nice GUI.

Telegram client is now available in the Windows Store

Telegram Messenger has been available on multiple platforms for years now, including Android, iOS, Windows PC and Windows Phone. Sadly, the current app for Microsoft platforms is not universal and runs only on mobile devices, while desktop users had to download a classic Win32 version of the client from the official site. Yesterday a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version has also become available to install from the Windows Store. But this has been made possible with the help of the official Microsoft Desktop App Converter tool.

Today, a shocking announcement at the Microsoft Support web site came to our attention. It brought sad news for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users. If you are running these operating systems, the Redmond software giant may leave you without updates even if your PC has drivers available!

Microsoft Photosynth service is no longer available

Back in 2015, Microsoft halted the support and development of some of its photo apps, including Lumia photo apps and mobile clients for the Photosynth service, allowing users to create interactive panoramas and upload them to the web. By the time of that announcement, the service itself was still accessible via a web interface, but in late 2016 Microsoft decided to shut it down too. And as of February 7, 2017, Microsoft Photosynth is no longer available.

Microsoft Outlook now supports add-ins on mobile devices

Microsoft announced yesterday that it is bringing add-in functionality in Outlook on its mobile versions, starting with iOS. The first batch of add-ins includes Dynamics 365, Nimble, Evernote, Smartsheet and GIPHY. Developers will also be able to add mobile support to their add-ins built with HTML and JavaScript: using the same code as a base and making some minor tweaks which will allow them to run on phones, tablets, desktops and the web.
