Windows 11 and 10 have a dedicated microsoft-edge:// protocol for opening specific links explicitly in the Edge browser—formerly in Edge Legacy and now in Edge Chromium. Regardless of your default browser choice, Windows opens those links in Edge Chromium in an attempt to get more users for the browser.

Microsoft has released a new build of Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, 97.0.1060.2 to the Dev Channel. It traditionally brings with it several new features, fixes and improvements. This is the first build with major number 97 for the Dev Channel.

Microsoft Edge 96, the next major update for the browser from Microsoft, is now one step away from the public release. The company has just shipped Edge 96 for testers in the Beta channel, allowing users to preview new features and find last-minute bugs. Linux was the last operating system Microsoft has added to the list of supported systems; no wonder the stable version is not available yet.

Not so long ago, Google released an update for its Chrome browser, which removed the lock icon (HTTPS indicator) in the address bar. Now Microsoft decided to adopt the change.
