A new version of Mozilla Firefox is here. The only alternative browser these days, it brings back the classic download prompt. Now the user can again choose what to do with a downloaded file. Previously, it was set to save it directly to the 'Downloads' folder. Besides, it comes with security fixes, with no drastic changes to other areas.

One of the controversial changes in recent Firefox versions is the file auto-download behavior. By default, whether you click on a file link, the browser automatically starts downloading it and places the file into your “Downloads” folder. This is similar to how Chrome handles the downloads, and wasn’t welcomed by core Mozilla users. The browser used to be more flexible when asked what to do with the file.

Firefox 100 is now available for everyone. The first three digit version of the browser comes with several video improvements, including hardware accelerated AV1 video decoding on Windows. There is also the ability to use multiple spell checking dictionaries and auto-hiding scrollbars.

This has finally happened. Starting in version 100, Mozilla Firefox will use hardware acceleration when playing AV1 videos. The release is scheduled on May 3, 2022.

Mozilla Firefox 98 become available for download last night. It is a minor release that is focused on fixes and general improvements. Still, there are two notable changes related to downloads and search engines.

Firefox 97 has removed the classic Print Preview dialog from the browser. The modern Print Preview page is now the only option you can use. Mozilla has discontinued the appropriate setting.

After updating to Firefox 98, scheduled on March 8, some users will notice that their default search engine has been changed. The change will affect users from all countries.

Mozilla has released Firefox 97, a new version of their very own web browser which is the last non-Chromium based app on the market. This is a minor update. Its most notable changes are an extended set of Colorways themes and Windows 11 style scrollbars.

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other browsers let you also manage playback using simple media buttons, such as play/pause. About a year ago, Mozilla started working on an improved version of picture-in-picture in Firefox. The needed infrastructure is now available in Firefox Nightly, the earliest version of Firefox, where Mozilla tests new features and capabilities.
