Broadcom has revised licensing terms for VMware partners

Broadcom has made changes to the process for VMware partners to enter service agreements. Partners are no longer able to do so directly through the partner portal and will instead be served by Broadcom. The portal currently has 2,000 registered accounts, and any attempts by partners to register transactions with VMware will be rejected.

During an information session on January 4, 2024, Broadcom shared that they will also reject attempts to register new deals for strategic accounts and will review and reject a number of approved transactions.

The company also presented new rules for existing VMware partners, allowing them to continue registering deals on the VMware Partner Connect portal until February 4th. Partners of the Advanced, Principal, and Pinnacle programs will receive transaction protection, Ad+ discounts, and preferential prices during this period. OEM partners will only receive Volume Licensing incentives, which will be valid until February 4th. Starting on January 15, certain VMware partners who meet specific criteria will be invited to join the new Broadcom partner program. One of the criteria is an annual income of at least $500,000.

Broadcom completed the acquisition of VMware for $61 billion on November 23, 2023. Following the acquisition, Broadcom made various changes, including canceling perpetual licenses, transitioning to a subscription model, and reducing the VMware partner program.
