Microsoft is considering using an ARM64 processor in the next generation of the Surface Go tablet. The company exposes its interest in the ARM platform, so there is a chance for Surface Go 4 to have an ARM64-based consumer version.
In fact, users have been asking Microsoft for a long time to bring the Surface Go to Windows on ARM. Competitive devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c processors, such as the Samsung Galaxy Book Go, are already popular in the affordable device segment.
Microsoft is seriously engaged in the development and promotion of devices on the ARM platform. So, at the Build 2022 conference, the company presented native tools for developers, including the first ARM-native version of Visual Studio 2022 along with the Project Volterra devkit.
According to Windows Central, the full transition of Surface Go 4 to ARM won't happen. Most likely, business variants of the device will continue to come with processor units from Intel. But the cheaper consumer versions of Surface Go may become ARM-based devices. If this really happens, then the Surface Go 4 will likely be built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c, despite existence of a newer generation of the SoC, dubbed as Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx. The latter is not widely used yet, as vendors need more time to adapt it.
