Initially, this update will impact users in the United States who use the English and Spanish versions of the platform. However, this feature will be rolled out to other countries and regions in the near future.
According to a report from The Verge, for United States residents, the trusted sources identified include Mass General Brigham, an organization that offers comprehensive medical services, conducts research, and provides medical training. The list also includes international organizations such as the Mexican Red Cross, the American Red Cross, and the American Heart Association. Together, these organizations have collaborated with YouTube to create short instructional videos on first aid for various critical situations.
In 2022, YouTube introduced a verification program for licensed healthcare professionals. Verified videos will be labeled as a "trusted source of health information," providing viewers with assurance about their reliability. Additionally, YouTube took action to remove content that promotes dangerous abortion methods and false information about the safety of the procedure. Prior to this, YouTube had already implemented measures to address anti-vaccine videos.
