Microsoft is rolling out the update Xbox app that includes a long-awaited feature. It allows installing games from Microsoft Store or Xbox Game Pass to any folder.
The feature was in testing since November 2021. The Redmond firm finds it stable enough for daily use.
From now, the Xbox app for Windows 11 and Windows 1o allows you to install games from the Microsoft Store to any folder. There will be no restrictions on accessing the game files. This should solve many problems with installing PC Game Pass games. In addition, users, if necessary, will be able to backup are restore a copy of the game data.
It is worth noting that earlier all games from the Microsoft Store were installed in a system WindowsApps folder. You can find it inside the Program Files folder on the system drive, or in the root of the drive you set for storing apps in Settings. Access to this folder is restricted, so users cannot move or modify game files on demand without changing NTFS permissions.
The good news is that installed games don't have to be reinstalled. You need to simply right-click on the game in the Xbox app, and select Manage. There, turn on advanced game installation and management options.
Obviously, you can select a custom folder before installing a new game.
Microsoft has already published the updated version of the Xbox App to the Microsoft Store. It is on the way to your device.
