Windows Subsystem for Android is coming to Insiders in Japan

Microsoft expands availability of Windows Subsystem for Android to Insiders in Japan. The company follows its plan to gradually make Android app support to several more markets. So Japan is the first one to get it.

Microsoft recommends upgrading the Store app to version 22206.1401.6 before installing WSA. After that, install the latest version of the Amazon App Store to get access to Android apps tested for compatibility with Windows 11. Check out how to install Windows Subsystem for Android, specially the Store method. If you are living outside of the countries where WSA is available, then use the first method covered in that tutorial.

The number of Android apps listed in the Amazon App store is pretty limited. However, the good news is that you can install Google Play Store instead of the Amazon app, and enjoy the full range of Android apps on Windows 11. See How to Install Google Play Store on Windows 11 WSA.

Alternatively, you can easily sideload an APK file to Windows Subsystem for Android. All you need to do is to obtain the program file of your favorite Android software and then get it installed by following this guide: How to Sideload Apps in Windows 11 Subsystem for Android from APK file.

WSA is still a work in progress so it has some rough edges and a room for improvements. Microsoft is actively updating it with new capabilities and features. Earlier this month, several gaming and performance improvements landed in WSA, along with compatibility with joysticks and gamepads.
