Windows PowerToys are getting a revamped home page

Microsoft is currently working on an updated home page for PowerToys, a set of utilities that add extra features to the OS. The goal is to provide users with a more advanced system for launching PowerToys for the first time or working with it after an update. The updated home page will offer clearer and richer settings for basic PowerToys apps.

The home page in PowerToys is expected to display a list of all available modules and utilities that can be easily toggled on or off with a single click. When a module is activated, a card with a description of the utility will appear in the dashboard area. Users will also have access to main shortcuts for activating its elements and the option to launch the module using hotkeys, if applicable.

The upcoming redesign aims to make it easier to determine whether a specific utility is enabled or disabled, provide quick access to keyboard shortcuts and additional features, and offer links to additional settings for each utility on the settings screen. Developers invite users to send their feedback on this project.

PowerToys is a collection of utilities that enables power users to customize and optimize their Windows experience for enhanced productivity. The project's source codes are available on GitHub under the MIT open source license. Originally available for Windows 95, PowerToys included 15 different tools that were installed together. With the release of Windows XP, a new version of PowerToys allowed users to install each tool separately. In May 2019, Microsoft relaunched the PowerToys project for Windows 10 and later for Windows 11. The official website is here.

In early August, Microsoft released PowerToys 0.72 for Windows 10/11, which significantly reduced the installation folder size and introduced new plugins. Integration with ChatGPT is expected to be added to PowerToys soon, allowing users to send requests and receive responses within the PowerToys Run interface.

The Hosts File Editor and File Locksmith utilities were added to PowerToys in November 2022, enabling users to edit the Hosts file and unlock files.
