Microsoft prevents you from removing Windows Backup, considers it a core app

Windows 11/10 users have observed that they are unable to uninstall the new Windows Backup app. It made its first appearance on Windows 11, and is now available on Windows 10. According to Microsoft, app has been made an integral part of the operating system.

The Redmond firm states that the app is a "system component" and therefore cannot be removed from the OS. The restriction even applies to enterprise users who can't utilize the app due to corporate policies. Additionally, the app requires a Microsoft account, which means that Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Active Directory (AD) users have no option to use it to back up their data.

Windows Backup App No Remove

Microsoft has acknowledged the complaints from system administrators and users about the new system component and is planning to release a patch that will hide the app presence in Windows 10 Pro, Education and Enterprise, as well as Windows 11 using AAD and AD. However, while the app will be hidden, it will remain on the system. (via)

In August, optional updates for Windows 10 introduced a "Backup" button in File Explorer and the Windows Backup utility, which was previously only available in Windows 11 as part of the OneDrive service integration. This allows users to back up their documents, images, downloads and files to the OneDrive cloud service with ease.
