Windows 11 Task Manager will get NPU support from AMD

In the near future the Task Manager in Windows 11 will receive support for neural processors (Neural Processing Unit, NPU) from AMD. Such a unit is included in the latest processors from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. The hardware component will speed up the processing of artificial intelligence tasks.

According to AMD, their NPU will be based on the Microsoft Compute Driver Model (MCDM). This means that users will be able to monitor the load on the NPU directly in the Task Manager, along with the CPU and GPU.

The ability to monitor application behavior in real time will be especially useful for laptop owners, as users will be able to control the launch of certain tasks and adjust power consumption settings to increase the battery life of the device.

Bringing NPU support to Windows Task Manager is an important step given the growing interest in artificial intelligence. This step will allow the user not to be limited by the choice of hardware and gain access to the entire functionality of the operating system to solve a variety of tasks.
